Urban Cleanliness councillor of Torrevieja town hall, Carmen Gómez, reported the removal of 260 tons of rubble and garbage from wasteground in and around Torrevieja auditorium last week.
The illegal dumping of building and household waste in the area had become an issue that the town hall was keen to deal with and Councillor Gómez said that they were counting on locals to help tackle the issue. Gómez requested collaboration by citizens in order that instances of fly tipping can be reported to local police right away in order that perpetrators be arrested and fined.
She also wanted to remind residents that individuals can freely deposit small amounts of rubble in the ECOPARQUE, located opposite Habaneras shopping centre in Torrevieja.
Carmen Gómez revealed that a map of illegal dumps is being drawn up in order that police and the town hall can plan surveillance in order to catch repeat offenders. However, she emphasised that the participation of citizens in reporting perpetrators is key to stamping out this illegal practice.
