Alicante figures soar over last fortnight

Covid-19 infections have soared over the last two weeks in the Alicante province.
The current number of active cases is more than double what it was in mid-October. The situation is especially complicated in the health departments of Elda, Orihuela and the two health areas of Elche.
Infections per 100,000 inhabitants have shot up, from an average of 104.69 to 227.15. However, for the purposes of infection control, areas are divided by health department rather than geographically and in the departments of Elda, Orihuela, Elche-Hospital General and Elche-Crevillent, all have an incidence in the last 14 days of more than 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Figures in Alcoy, Vinalopó, Elda, Pinoso and Petrer are also cause for concern.
The outlook in the Orihuela health department is also far from rosy. The latest figures show that Orihuela has registered an incidence of 410.78 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and even worse is the situation of Callosa de Segura, with 493.75.
