Benejúzar approves earthquake action plan

Benejúzar, with the collaboration of the Generalitat Valenciana, has approved an action plan against seismic risks. The plan will serve as the basis for an emergency plan of action and will guide the town’s emergency services on how to act in the event of an earthquake. The document has been written thanks to the programme of the Generalitat Valenciana, Emcold, and financed by the Valencian Employment and Training Service (Labora). This newest plan completes the flood and emergency programmes of the town hall and, in addition, will form part of the General Plan for Seismic Risks of the Valencian Community.
Mayor Miguel López said that “in Benejúzar we were already one of the first towns in the Vega Baja region to develop the action plan against floods and, now, with a new update, it has become more complete than before.”
The plan maps out the different zones of the territory based on the seismic risk, defines areas according to possible requirements to intervene and locates usable infrastructure, outlines support required of emergency units in the event of earthquakes, specifies procedures for informing the population and provides information on how specific actions should be carried out.
The plan also includes the climatic characteristics of the municipality, as well as its orography, hydrology and geology. “We are talking about a document that will allow us to better address any risk situation and also better understand our territory,” said López.
