Cherry-picker blaze at Cala Mosca

Fire-fighters from Torrevieja were called to extinguish a blaze that sprang up in the engine of a cherry-picker in Orihuela Costa. The accident occurred mid-afternoon near to the La Mosca shopping centre, next to the N332.
The engine of the mechanical lifting device, which was being used for the updating of an advertising hoarding, caught fire whilst two operators were on stood on the platform. Luckily, they were able to get out of the vehicle before the flames and smoke took hold and neither were injured. The thick column of smoke alerted drivers who were travelling on the N-332 at that time and local residents also called the emergency services after seeing the thick black smoke.
The entire team of the Torrevieja-Vega Baja Sur Fire Station attended the incident, which took place last Thursday, leaving other areas without sufficient fire cover. The second closest crew being in Almoradi.
