As the Alicante province registers 3346 new infections in just 48 hours, the provincial field hospital is admitting its first patients. The field hospital, located in the grounds of Alicante General Hospital, has been equipped with 80 beds to cope with the surge in numbers across the province. The field hospital can be extended to cope with 242 patients if necessary.
The Alicante field hospital, like its counterparts in Castellón and Valencia, will treat patients over 18 who are positive for covid (confirmed by PCR), and who have previously been admitted to an acute hospital.
In accordance with the protocol of the Ministry of Justice and Public Administrations, spaces have been enabled in the facility for migrants who require isolation due to having been close contacts of infected people.
To deal with recent low temperatures, Public Health also revealed that the air conditioning systems have been reinforced so that the temporary hospital maintains an optimal temperature at all times, both for patients and health workers.
The Ministry of Health on Sunday revealed 1,110 new coronavirus infections (confirmed by PCR test or antigen test) in the province of Alicante. The previous day (Saturday) figures were almost double with 2,236 cases in the Alicante province. Experts speculate that Sunday’s decrease in numbers could be due to the lower number of tests administered over the weekend, especially given that tests administered on Friday would often be confirmed on Saturday.
