The Councillor for Street Cleaning and RSU, Dámaso Aparicio, has announced reinforcements to the pruning collection service in Orihuela Costa with an additional octopus truck with a driver.
This contract, which amounts to 49,984.00 euros (VAT included), will last for one year with the option of a second year. This allows an increase in the daily collection service of pruning and garden waste across the summer to improve the current service.
As Councillor Aparicio explained, the first pruning of the season usually occurs on the occasion of Easter, “but this year due to the state of alarm and confinement, this has not been the case. However, with the arrival of visitors and holiday-makers in recent weeks, the presence of these plant cuttings in the streets has increased significantly as a result of the maintenance being made in private and community gardens”.
With the additional new truck the Department of Street Cleaning now has more capacity to provide the service with the ‘octopus trucks’ to collect cuttings on the streets in morning and afternoon in shifts.
Don’t just dump
However, for this service to be effective, it is necessary to communicate with the department before leaving large amounts of garden waste on a public road, even of there are bins there.
The technical staff of the Department will schedule the collection and give you a day to leave prunings and/or furniture in your vicinity.
The Councillor said: “We also make an appeal to citizens regarding uncontrolled pruning deposits on our streets from neighbouring municipalities and private gardening companies. Any citizen collaboration that can help us alleviate this serious problem will be well received.”
