From September 4 to 10 at the Casa de Cultura

Guardamar will host the I International Chess Festival from September 4 to 10 at the Municipal House of Culture. An event that acquires a special meaning this year, since Guardamar del Segura has been designated Valencian Cultural Capital 2023.
The Festival comprises two notable tournaments that will attract male and female teachers, male and female players, as well as chess enthusiasts from different countries.
Thus, from September 4 to 9, the I OPEN ESPHOUSES of Slow Games (90 + 30) will be attended. Participants will compete in a slow-play tournament, providing a perfect setting to showcase their strategic prowess and tactical skills. And on September 10, the IV MEMORIAL of rapid games (10 + 2) »José Manuel Hernández Ortiz» will take place. This tournament will pay homage to the memory of guardamarenco José Manuel Hernández Ortiz, chess instructor (FEDA).
The mayor of Guardamar and head of Sports, José Luis Sáez Pastor, will be in charge of closing the “I OPEN ESPHOUSES” and will give way to the “IV MEMORIAL “José Manuel Hernández Ortiz”.
The organizer of the event, Club de Ajedrez “Dama de Guardamar”, wishes to express its gratitude to the hoteliers of the town for their valuable collaboration in the development of this Chess Festival since they will serve as accommodation for international players and companions with special discounts .
In the absence of the last registrations until September 1, the participation of the following players titled by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) has been confirmed, among which the young Harry Grieve stands out, Champion of England and first in the ranking.
