

Torrevieja Local Police arrested a driver who fled the scene on Thursday after hitting a cyclist on the roundabout next to the hospital before fleeing the scene.
After what police described as an “exhaustive investigation”, officers located the driver on Friday morning. The Department of Emergencies of the Torrevieja City Council extended its thanks to all the citizens who offered their collaboration with the search.
The cyclist was seriously injured after the hit and run which took place at around 8.45am at the access to Torrevieja hospital on the CV-95. After running over the cyclist, the driver fled the scene at full speed along the CV-95 towards San Miguel de Salinas and Orihuela.
The wounded man lay on the road bleeding profusely. Police officers, first to the scene, covered the wounded man with a blanket until the arrival of the ambulance. The paramedics treated him at the side of the road due to the severity of his injuries and he was later transferred to Quirón Hospital with a broken hip.
Several units of the Torrevieja Local Police and the Guardia Civil were dispatched to the scene of the incident and were able to verify, through eyewitnesses, that the car involved in the impact fled the scene at speed. The driver was located and arrested on Friday morning.
