Local political Party ‘Partido Independencia Orihuela Costa’ (PIOC) has been working with local bars, restaurants and businesses to highlight how safe the local area is for tourists.
This week the party has posted a video interview with Brendon Moran, co-owner of the Emerald Isle, La Florida.
Peter Houghton, President, PIOC, said: “The Purpose of these videos is to get the message over to visitors regarding the very low infection rate here in Orihuela Costa. People who have visited have said how safe they felt here. In fact they feel safer here than back in the UK or Ireland, but it is difficult to spread this message when International media just publish figures for Spain as a whole, not region-by-region.”
In the video Brendan discusses how devastating the effects of Covid has been but feels the generalisation of Spanish cases in the international media has painted a false picture. Brendan, make the point that more regional figures should be promoted to highlight the low number of local cases in comparison to northern Spain, where the majority of cases are. He highlighted the excellent social distancing measure being taken on local beaches, in local businesses and bars and restaurants. The wearing of masks being compulsory is also a huge reassurance for visitors. He argues that the preventative and protective measures in Spain are far superior to the UK and that Orihuela Costa could be a haven for those who wish to travel safely. The municipality has a huge amount to offer from museums and monuments to golf courses and beautiful beaches.
Peter Houghton concluded: “The message is clear ‘we are open for business’. With all that we have to offer and with low infection rates you can have peace of mind and enjoy your holiday. Locally you are bound to have a great time where ever you go: La Fuente Commercial Centre, La Florida, Lomas de Cabo Roig, Citrus Centre, Villamartin Plaza or Cabo Roig there is so much choice here on Orihuela Costa. Even more importantly, you can socialise knowing that all the safety measures are in places for your protection.”
