Orihuela Costa sports centre reopens

The Councillor for Sports, Víctor Bernabéu, has announced that the Municipal Sports Centre for Orihuela Costa will be re-opened this week. The much-missed facility will once again open its doors to the public after resolving the procedure for awarding the contract for this service to Vectoris SL.
The total amount of the contract amounts to 877,337 euros (VAT included) and will last a period of two years and is extendable for a further 12 months. The Councillor for Sports explained that “we have complied with our commitment to offer the best service with all relevant guarantees to the residents of the coast and users of these facilities with their imminent opening”. Councillor Bernabéu pointed out hat the purpose of this service is to provide sports programs, facilities, activities and clubs to the local community. In addition the provider is responsible for ‘rescue and first aid services in the municipal swimming pool, to complete auxiliary maintenance, cleaning and access control services in the sports facilities and spaces of Orihuela Costa’.
In April 2019, the company that managed this service stopped providing management services for the Municipal Sports Centre and according to the government they had to take the reins in order to keep some basic facilities open. Since then, different clubs in the area and users have been able to enjoy the sports activities. The Councillor also highlighted that the ‘Department of Sports has restored the different tracks and spaces that were deteriorated’.
Councillor Bernabéu added that this new contract will provide 22 jobs, from maintenance and cleaning services to lifeguards and a technical director.
