Orihuela Mayor joins petition for Alicante airport safe air corridor

The Mayor of Orihuela, Emilio Bascuñana, has joined the petition that Carlos Mazón has put together with the tourism sector of the Province of Alicante to demand that the Pedro Sánchez includes Alicante airport in its negotiations with Boris Johnson’s government. In particular, to call for a ‘safe air corridor’ from Alicante Airport stretching across the province.
According to AENA, the number of passengers who have flown to Alicante airport in June has been reduced by 98.1 percent compared to 2019 and the number of passengers who have flown from Alicante to the United Kingdom has been seen reduced by 69.3 percent, which directly affects the municipalities that are the main destination of these passengers.
The Mayor said: “We have to emphasise the importance of British tourism and our town is the municipality with the most British residents on the Mediterranean coast.
“We are working hard so that Orihuela is at the head of the safest tourist destinations, in fact we have recently installed of cameras on 11 of our beaches, so that in real time visitors can see the number of people in order to avoid crowds. We are the first municipality in the province that has such a system on all its beaches.”
