Police search for suspected rapist in Orihuela

The National Police are investigating the serious sexual assault of a 60-year-old woman that occurred at around 9am on Sunday 21st March. The incident took place at the popular recreational area Soto de los Pinos where the victim had gone for a walk along the Segura river.
Officers are looking for a man of North African origin, aged between 35 and 40 years old, as the perpetrator of the alleged rape.
Sources say the woman was walking along the river at around 9am on Sunday when she was accosted and dragged into the nearby field where she is believed to have been raped. The man then fled on foot along the riverside.
Shortly afterwards, the victim was found lying on the ground by a passing couple who helped her and raised the alarm.
The Soto de los Pinos is a popular recreational area, especially at weekends, used by families and athletes. It is just two kilometres from the Murcian town of Beniel.
