Three businessmen, including an insurance broker from Elche whose initials are A.G.H., were arrested and brought to Elche Police Station on Thursday. The arrests are part of an investigation into alleged money laundering. The other arrested parties are identified only by their initials V. B. and J.C. Several other people are also being investigated and have given statements, but are not yet under arrest.
The police operation began as an investigation by the Tax Office. Officers attached to the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) travelled to Elche to make the arrests. Local sources indicate that the investigative process began a year and a half ago but no further data has been provided as it is believed that the investigation is still underway.
At least six business premises and homes have been searched, with the presence of the court clerk and the defendants themselves. One of the searches was carried on the ground floor of the Manuel Martínez Valero stadium. The objective appeared to be to collect data, seize computers and documents.
