Torrevieja canine beach petition

Local residents have signed a petition to have the canine beaches of Torrevieja returned to the original locations after it appears that the recently changed Playa para Perros de Torrevieja does not meet dog owners’ approval. The petition already has nearly seven hundred signatures.
The residents, who until now had used the beaches set up by the previous local government without suffering any kind of injury to themselves or their animals, are appealing to Mayor Eduardo Dolón after he changed the location of these recreational doggy spaces for one inaccessible and remote beach that owners claim is dangerous for both themselves and their pets.
After numerous complaints by local residents, Alba Chazarra, who lives in Torrevieja, experienced the perils of the beach when her dog also suffered injuries on the new beach established by the PP. Spurred to take matters further she set-up the petition to call for the previous sites to be restored.
The petition alleges that the sites that Eduardo Dolón has set up as “dog beaches” do not have the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of human or canine users.
The opposition party Los Verdes is supporting the petition and has already denounced the relocation of the dog beach for the same reasons.
A Spokesman said: “We believe that the resolution is nothing more than a decision that shows that the Popular Party does not care about the welfare of animals or their owners, but about satisfying the personal wishes of a few above the needs of citizens and their well-being.”
Users says the issues surrounding the new beach are not only of security but also of accessibility of the facility. This they claim is forcing many dog owners to improvise and use better beaches that are not official dog beaches or to travel and use the dog beaches established in other areas, such as Santa Pola.
