Town hall says no to motorhomes

Residents around the Calas de Torrevieja have long bemoaned the almost permanent presence of motorhomes, parked on the seafront often for months at a time. The lack of facilities in the area mean that there is no suitable place for motorhomes to park, given that campers cannot empty chemical toilets or other waste water.
Torrevieja’s Councillor for the Environment and Beaches, Antonio Vidal, announced this week that a decision has been made to end the practice of free camping and measures have been taken to stop campervans from accessing the seafront.
Vidal explained that there have been problems generated by the continuous influx of motorhomes, especially between La Higuera cove and Los Locos beach where for months at a time, a constant stream of these heavy vehicles damages protected fauna and flora.
The town hall has erected new signage reminding motorists that all access to vehicles is prohibited.
Antonio Vidal explained that after months of meetings and negotiations with the Provincial Coastal Service, under the Ministry of Ecological Transition, and taking into account reports from the Municipal Biologist, Juan Antonio Pujol, the decision had to be taken to end the indiscriminate parking of motorhomes.
The Councillor for the Environment and Beaches also stressed that from now on the Local Police have an order to actively enforce the parking ban for all vehicles, denouncing those who do not comply with the rule with fines that could go up to 200 euros in some cases.
