The president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, has announced that the Ministry of Health is studying expanding the type of establishments where the COVID passport will be required, in addition to the current ones such as bars and restaurants with large capacity.
Ximo Puig stressed that the obligation to present this certificate has three benefits:
• It is a permanent reminder that the virus is still active and a danger to health, communities and lifestyles
• It creates safer spaces because the unvaccinated spread the virus more
• It encourages those who have been reluctant to been vaccinated
He also highlighted that the need for a Covid Passport has considerably increased vaccination rates in just a few weeks and “for that alone it has been worthwhile.” In fact, he has given as an example that, if in a normal week of November an average of 620 first doses a day were administered in the Valencian Community, since the introduction of the passport there are more than 2,400 a day.
President Puig has also encouraged people to celebrate “Christmas with responsible joy, because this will be the best for everyone” once again calling on people to wear masks, keep number low and ventilate indoor spaces well.
He has also pushed for the booster jab to be given to essential personnel and then to those over 40 years old and has once again urged the ‘International Community’ to extend the vaccination to poor countries and therefore prevent the emergence of new variants.
