The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 20th November for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus (Covid-19) since the start of the pandemic is now 1,556,730. This was an overall increase of 15,156 against the figure released on Thursday. Last Friday’s data had shown an overall increase of 21,371.
The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during this ‘second wave’ in Spain was on 30th October, when 9,723 new cases were registered. During the ‘first wave’, it was on 31st March when 9,222 new cases were registered.
The overall accumulated incidence rate for Spain is now 419.48 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. It is now under 500 in nine regions: the Balearic Islands (225.41), the Canary Islands (79.92), Castilla La Mancha (430.72), Catalonia (393.55), the Valencia region (299.53), Extremadura (393.55), Galicia (286.68), Madrid (285.52) and Navarra (440.22).
Local figures
The Vega Baja has added eight deaths and 451 new positives from coronavirs, according to data provided by the Ministry of Health running to the end of last week. This is the highest number of deaths in the region since data is provided every 72 hours.
Two deaths have been registered in the city of Orihuela, two in Catral, and one in the towns of Almoradí, Los Montesinos, Redován and Rojales. Therefore, the number of lives that the pandemic has claimed since it began in March rises to 143 in Vega Baja, of which 84 belonged to the Torrevieja Health Department and 59 to Orihuela.
Since last Tuesday, 451 new cases have been registered: a total of 290 in the Orihuela health area -dependent of the Vega Baja Hospital- and 161 in Torrevieja. The total number of positives registered in the region since the pandemic began is 6,392, of which 4,096 belong to the municipalities that make up the Orihuela Health Department and 2,296 to Torrevieja.
