The Councillor for Citizen Security for Orihuela, Ramón López, has reported that in the last fifteen days the Orihuela Local Police has imposed 400 fines to people for failing to comply with the regulations established to fight COVID19. The fines specifically relate to the mandatory use of masks and the prohibition smoking on public roads without complying with the established distances.
“As a result of the resolution of the Ministry of Health that established restrictive measures for the municipality of Orihuela due to the increase in positives for coronavirus, the Local Police has increased controls to ensure compliance with them,” said Councilor López, who stressed that “our hand will not shake in intensifying controls to help flatten the contagion curve, which we are achieving, according to health sources, thanks to everyone’s involvement.”
The Citizen Security Department reported that it will continue working to guarantee compliance with preventive measures, avoid complancency from residents and stop the increase in coronavirus infections. ‘Because the best prevention that we have so far is, above all, the use of a mask and social distancing’ the Coucillor explained.
Finally, Ramón López, has added that “unfortunately, at times there is no other way of ensuring people understand and adhere to the regulations than to issue sanctions. Those people fined for non-compliance with these regulations face fines of 100e”.
