Popular seaside town Villajoysa, which is just about an hour drive from Torrevieja, is in danger of going into a local lockdown due to concerning levels of coronavirus case over the last week. The Marina Baixa Public Health department recently reported a surge in local cases, taking the number from 14 to 21 in a few days.
Five of th4 new cases are thought to have been transmitted during family gatherings and social time with friends. The situation has been heightened because many of the cases are asymptomatic, which people not feeling ill at all. A considerable amount of cases appear to be isolated and trackers are now investigating where people have been and who they have been in contact with.
Mayor Andreu Verdu said: “We may have to adopt more drastic measures which will include confining the town if necessary.”
He also called for people in the municipality to act responsibly to stop the spread of Covid-19 after Regional Public Health Director, Teresa Revilla claimed there had been a ‘relaxation in what people have been doing previously with social distancing and trying to prevent the spread of the coronavirus’.
The council in La Villa, as the ton in known locally, has increased the cleaning and disinfection of parks and communal areas. With Local Police clamping down on mask wearing, especially among young people.
