Repairs underway at La Glea promenade

Preliminary preparations have begun in order to start the works on the Paseo de La Glea, Dehesa de Campoamor, Orihuela Costa. The Councillor for Infrastructures Ángel Noguera, together with the director of the project, municipal technicians were all on site to see the repairs underway.
Councillor Noguera said: “Due to the enormous amount of repair work caused by the damage wreaked by the DANA across the municipality of Orihuela, the subsequent stoppage of activity due to COVID-19 and the beginning of the summer season, these repair works could not be started earlier. We understand the annoyance and frustration that the delay may have been caused to local residents and visitors, but finally the time has come to fix the promenade so that it once again looks good, as it deserves to.”
The Councillor explained that “from my department, we always try to start the works within the established deadlines, but sometimes difficulties arise that cause the established times to be altered as has happened with this work”. For him as the head of the Department of Infrastructure, the important thing is that Orihuela carries out the planned actions and investments quickly now they are underway.
The damage caused as a result of the DANA in September 2019 consists of a total of three section where the promenade was completely undermined by the flood water between Rambla del Nacimiento and Calle Rubén Darío. This mainly affected the pedestrian area of the seafront walkway, as well as the urban infrastructures of public street lighting and the supply of drinking water.
The planned works include the following actions: a decorative wall of blocks to give continuity to the existing ones, filling the existing tunnels and re-paving the promenade, the sidewalks and the road – both in the damaged part and on the remaining sections, the replacement of drinking water and public lighting, horizontal and vertical signage and new street furniture and lights.
Finally, Ángel Noguera indicated that “the contract has been awarded for an amount of €72,003.28 and with an execution period for the completion of the works of just one month.”
