The Department of Universal Health and Public Health began on Sunday to administer the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The residents and social health personnel of the Verge del Miracle Residence in Rafelbunyol, Valencia, were among the first to receive the first dose and this Sunday they will be vaccinated with the second.
According to the forecasts of the pharmaceutical company, within a period of 10 days, those who were vaccinated on Sunday will acquire immunity against COVID-19. The efficacy level of this vaccine is 95 percent.
Over the next few days, the 5,151 second doses will be supplied to complete the first vaccination cycle for the people with whom the process began on 27th December. The forecast is to receive 17,550 vaccines yesterday (Monday 18th), 58 percent of the usual ones due to the incidence reported by Pfizer. By Monday 25th, according to the forecasts of the ministry, 30,255 doses will already be received, and in a few weeks the 12,705 doses that were not received will be replaced – a setback that has forced to temporarily modify the vaccination plan to guarantee that all those people vaccinated in the first dose will receive the second on time.
Carmen Gómez was the first to receive the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine in the Valencian Community. All the residents of the Verge del Miracle center in Rafelbunyol “are excited” and all those who received the first dose want to receive the second, said nurse Cristina Palacios, who was in charge of Sunday’s vaccination programme.
At the moment, 86,927 doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been administered in the Valencian Community of the first dose in residential care homes and among health personnel, 92.1 percent of all those received so far. By provinces, 11,653 have been administered in Castellón, 32,472 in Alicante and 42,802 in Valencia.
