Sunday’s torrential rain caused traffic chaos in the usual black spots with over 60 litres of rainfall per square metre. After 50 days without rain, Sunday was a washout in many parts of the Vega Baja. In Torrevieja, cars were stranded and streets were closed as emergency services were deployed to help motorists. Several vehicles were trapped and fire-fighters intervened at the usual flood points despite recent works to install a €300,000 storm drain.
