A young British man, aged just 24, was killed in a tragic accident just outside the Pilar tunnel on the AP7 motorway. The accident took place on Friday morning when for reasons currently under investigation, the man lost control of the vehicle and hit the central barrier which caused the car to flip several times before crashing 50 metres away, into the road at the entrance of the tunnel.
The accident, which was recorded by traffic surveillance cameras, occurred at 11:20 am. The young man was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The Alicante Emergency Information and Coordination Center received several calls from other drivers, warning of the terrible accident. A SAMU unit was dispatched but the medical team could only confirm the death of the driver. His body was transferred to the mortuary in Torrevieja and his family, living in La Manga, was informed.
