EDUCATION OFFICIALS SET TO INVEST €22.1 MILLION IN THE MPROVEMENT OF SCHOOLS IN TORREVIEJA
Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, Councilor for Education, Ricardo Recuero, and the general director of Educational Infrastructure, Víctor Garcia, met on Friday to address the much needed improvement and modernization of certain schools in the town.
The mayor announced a substantial investment in 2021, and thanked the director of infrastructure for his work on the project so far with several meetings already held to identify the priority projects in terms of education.
A number of improvement works will be put out to tender, representing an investment of €13.3 million. The works will be divided between CEIP Amanecer (€6.8 million), works that will go out to tender between March and April of this year; and the demolition and reconstruction of Inmaculada CEIP on the same plot, works worth €6.5 million, which will put to tender in June.
The inclusion of Torrevieja into the ‘Edificant’ Plan was also agreed at Friday’s meeting, with an initial investment by the Department of Education of €8.8 million in four projects that the town hall itself will manage: the reform and expansion of Las Lagunas, Torrevigía and Libertas secondary schools, as well as the Virgen del Carmen primary school.
In addition, schools will be adapted to sustainability, energy efficiency and the educational standards of the 21st century. The projects will also contribute to the improvement of the local economy by generating more than six hundred jobs in the construction sector.
The big news is the construction of the new Amanecer primary school, the project for which will be finalised in the summer so that construction work can commence in September. The new school will be built on a municipal plot of 8,871 m2 located on Avenida Los Nenúfares. The school will boast 6 ‘infantil’ classrooms and 12 primary rooms as well as a gymnasium and cafeteria. The school will also have air conditioning and ventilation through air treatment units (AHU) specifically designed to guarantee fresh air is pumped into classrooms.
The gym will have air conditioning in the changing rooms, while the Physical Education room will have permanent natural ventilation. The generation of hot water for hand washing will be through a system of solar panels, thus improving the sustainability of the building.
Outside, different play areas will be constructed for Infant and Primary children as well as interior courtyards and gardens, a sports court, vegetable garden and shelters.
