On Sunday Alicante registered the lowest number of new coronavirus infections since December. In total, according to the latest data update from the Generalitat Valenciana (at time of going to print) there were 253 new positives in the province. This level has not been recorded since an isolated day at the end of last year, just the day after Christmas. The decline in the number of people admitted to hospitals is, however, slower, as there are still 658 in the province, of which 144 are in ICUs.
There are already 140,996 people that have been affected by covid in Alicante – which is the figure supported by medical evidence such as testing. The figure is tremendously high (despite the fact it may be underestimated), but there are fewer people adding to it than have been adding to it in recent weeks: especially the 253 new low of positives. Although 26th December was the last day that the province recorded this figure, in reality we have to go back to October to see this amount of normal and constant daily positives. Between October and February, only five days have shown a lower number of positives.
The number of people hospitalised also continues a downward progression, although it does so in a much more subtle way. Currently, according to the Sunday update, there are 658 patients admitted, which is around half the number of those recorded just fifteen days ago. Those admitted to the ICUs of the province are 144, 40 percent less than two weeks ago.
In Elche there have been three new outbreaks, all of them of social origin, while in Elda there has been one of these episodes with educational origin and four infections, and in Dolores one of work, with five affected. Across the Vega Baja most new cases come from n work environment.
The Valencian Community has registered 644 new cases of coronavirus confirmed by PCR test or through antigen test since the last update, which places the total autonomic figure of positives at 375,034 people. By provinces, the distribution of new positives is as follows: 253 in Alicante -140,996 in total-, 290 in the province of Valencia -195,629 in total- and 100 in Castellón -38,406 in total-. In addition, an unassigned case has been registered, so that the number of unassigned cases is three.
In this Sunday update, the Generalitat indicated that it has not been possible to report the number of the deceased and that it will be recovered in the next update.
